Margaret A Edwards Challenge Wrap Up

The Challenge: Read 3-5 books by winners of the Margaret A. Edwards award Feb 1-June 1 2008

Books Read:
Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card
Speaker for the Dead by Orson Scott Card
Gathering Blue by Lois Lowry
Messenger by Lois Lowry
The Giver by Lois Lowry

Highlights:
I loved my introduction to Orson Scott Card in Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead. Both were amazing reads I probably wouldn't have picked up except for this challenge. I enjoyed revisiting a childhood favorite, The Giver, and finally finishing Gathering Blue.

Lowlights:
Compared to The Giver and Gathering Blue, Messenger was a bit of a disappointment.

Congrats on finishing! I'm so *happy* you enjoyed both of the Card books. The Giver is probably my favorite of the the Lowry trilogy. If I remember correctly, Messenger, was just really really weird.

Congrats on finishing! I started reading Ender's Game to hubby on our car trip last weekend. We only made it 60 pages in and I had to put it down for some other reading, but I'm really enjoying it so far! This sounds like it was a great challenge--for some reason I missed it.

Congrats on finishing! I was convinced that I wasn't going to finish this one in time, but I managed to finish my book TODAY! Talk about cutting it close! Glad you enjoyed the Card books so much. They're my favorites :) I really need to read the second Lowry books...loved the Giver.

When I was younger I was in LOVE with Orson Scott Card, I read all of the Ender's Game series, and then the Shadow series that followed. I'm glad you got an intro to them.

How was reading The Giver for the second time? I remember loving it when I was younger, but I'm afraid it will ruin it for me if I read it again.

debi-oh thank you:-)

becky-Messenger was weird. I think it was just forced, in order to link her other two books. Too bad.

trish-oh I bet you will like it. I'm very glad I had the chance to read it!

chris-talk about the nick of time! If you liked The Giver, then definitely read Gathering Blue. It is a pretty good one.

nymeth-thank you!!

becca-I think The Giver was almost more powerful the second time around. I was understanding it from a different perspective than I did as a child. There are lots of themes I just didn't pick up on quite the same when I was younger.
