I googled myself tonight and realized that I was an honorable mention in a writing contest I had entered a few months ago.
OMG, right?
Except... this should not have been news to me. The announcement of the winners was made several weeks ago, and I actually looked at the website back when the announcement was first made, to see if my name was mentioned anywhere.
I am apparently blind.
My name was there the whole time. I completely missed it. And I would not have realized about being an honorable mention if not for googling my name.
Wow. I feel really dumb. And really happy. Because I won a prize thingy!
So the moral of the story is to google your name.
Go ahead, google it. I'll wait. I'm basking in the glow of success.
Back already? So, what did you find?

Hi Kim, that's cool!
I google myself all the time...
Congratulations on the honorable mention! That's awesome, Kim.
I wish I could google myself, but I have both THE most common female first name and THE most common last time in my language. So there are literally thousands of people with my name. That's one of the advantages of going by a weird made up screen name online :P
I got nothing!
Although there are apparently a couple of very busy marriage celebrants who share my name!
Well, I found that I'm now the Prison Companion Program Supervisor...though I am slightly suspicious that it might just be a different Debi Stevens they're talking about.
Congratulations Kim!!!
Congrats!
OMG, when I googled myself, I found one of my packaging designs on the website of my teacher from a class I took years ago! I had no idea!
Congratulations!
When I Google myself I get old scores from our dog agility competitions. We did pretty darn good! :-)
Lezlie
Woohoo!!! Congrats on the honorable mention! I google myself occasionally, but nothing interesting pops up except graduate school stuff. Except there is another person that shares my highly unusual name (well, the maiden last name is unusual--Trish isn't very unusual).
Congratulations on the honorable mention! When I google myself I just find other people with my name, and there are a few of us around the world, in England, Australia, ones a lawyer, and so on. :P
That is wonderful, Kim! Congratulations!
I am evidently an optometrist among other things. :-)
I admit that I do subscribe to google alerts that pull up links with Literary Feline and the name of my blog. I haven't tried it with my actual name though.
there are 357,000 Susan Flynns!!!! It's my married name, but my maiden name (Leonard) is not much better - 639,000 of us!!! However, my blog comes up on the third column, so that's good :-D otherwise, I'm into lots, apparently!!!
PS congratulations on the honorable mention!!
alice teh-but do you find anything interesting?
nymeth-thanks! Wow, that would make it hard to google yourself. Do you ever google your screen name?
marg-heehee interesting!
debi-huh, the things you never knew about yourself, right?
stephanie-isn't it strange what you find online??? So. Weird.!
Lezlie-thanks! And yeah, I bet with all the stuff you do with competitions you can find yourself online.
Trish-thanks! Isn't that weird to find other people who share your same name? I think there is someone else with my same name.
tanabata-thank you! That is interesting that there are others with your name in different parts of the world. Cool. My name is very American, so I doubt there's many people with my name in other parts of the world.
Literary Feline-aw thanks. I have a google alert for my name, although it has been acting up lately.
Susan-well considering your competition, its a good thing your blog comes up right away! And thank you very much!
I do have google alerts for Nymeth, but 99% of the results are for something I've already seen on a blog I regularly read. Also, I have no idea why I wrote "time" instead of "name" on my previous comment :P
Coolness. I never think to google myself.
Congratulations, that's wonderful!
I googled myself and found a baby name poll, and my name was in the lead (my first & last name being used as the first and middle for the baby).
I also found a really old letter to the editor that I wrote 7 years ago. I'd rather that not see the light of day. Kind of embarrassing, but this is the nature of the internet.
This is wonderful, funny and excellent - congrats, K! And no, I'm not gonna let myself google myself until I get some work done here this morning, which I haven't even begun yet cuz I'm traveling around in Blogworld!
but I'll let you know if I come up with anything google-cool!
Hey congratulations on your honorable mention, that's great!
I get nothing when I google myself. There's some professional woman who shares my name and she uses LinkedIn. That's not very interesting, but it's all I got!
My name "Rob Abdul" for the last 3 years has been my brand name.
I was so proud when my name appeared in Goggle's suggestive list.
It may not sound like much but at least 60 to 80 people goggle me a month.
It is nice for the Ego, I must admit!
